History

Carmel High School Choirs have been singing and dancing for over fifty years. The elite ensemble, The Ambassadors, was one of the very first show choirs in existence, and they paved the way for so many other schools to develop show choirs of their own. In addition, to this award-winning ensemble, Carmel has nine other choirs ranging from beginning levels to advanced. These groups provide hundreds of students an opportunity to fine tune their musical knowledge and performance skills each year.

The Carmel Choirs have taken home countless Grand Championships in both show choir and concert choir. They have traveled all over the United States and abroad. Ensembles from CHS have represented the community and state in an honorable way for many years, and have maintained a tradition of excellence unlike that of many other high schools. The program first began to truly gain notoriety under the masterful direction of Ron Hellems and Ann Conrad, then continued to shine over the years under the leadership of Ann Conrad, Lamonte Kuskye, Diana Gillespie, John Burlace, and Sam Chenoweth, among others. Current directors, Kathrine Kouns, Kyle Barker, and Anna DeBard are committed to maintaining and elevating that high level of quality and opportunity for all students at Carmel High School.
