Holiday Spectacular 2020

Live Stream Schedule & Links:

Don’t miss viewing “Hometown Holiday” December 18-20 on the Carmel High School Performing Art’s YouTube page:

Holiday Spectacular is the Carmel Choir’s largest fundraiser of the year. Between ticket sales and lobby concessions and sales, this show funds the majority of our program. This year, we are unable to charge for the stream due to copyright restrictions. Instead, we are asking viewers to support the program with donations. If each viewer would donate the amount that he or she would typically spent on tickets, concessions, etc., it would be such an enormous help to the choir program.

Many of you are already familiar with the long-standing tradition of Carmel High School’s Holiday Spectacular. For over 25 years, the Carmel choir program has been delivering holiday cheer through this production, which typically includes over 450 singers, a 40+ member orchestra, at least 30-40 tech assistants behind the scenes, and five performances to over 7,000 people in one week. As you probably realize, making this show happen in the same way as usual is simply not possible to do in a safe way this year. We still want to provide a holiday “gift” of entertainment to the community, so we are adjusting our plans. We are discussing the details with students in class, but we want to make parents aware of these changes so that you can plan accordingly for the time commitment, and so that you can help if you are able.

This year’s show will be an elaborate video production that features all of our choir students in a tribute to our hometown of Carmel, Indiana. They will still sing and dance in costumes with the usual “spectacle” on stage, but the performances will be masked and recorded. We will then edit the performances together, interjecting video footage from around our wonderful hometown. We are collaborating with the community to feature our CCS school board and administrators, our Carmel town council, local charities, our firefighters and police officers, our small business owners, and many other local VIP’s who continue to support the Carmel Choir Program. Some of our choir students will have the opportunity to “star” in the transition videos around town, and we are pretty sure that there will still be a video appearance from a jolly, old man in a sleigh! It is our hope that this will be a wonderful opportunity for us to partner with people from all over the City of Camel, to help everyone remember that even with masks and social distancing, the holiday spirit is still alive and well.

COVID precautions that will be taken throughout rehearsals and performances:

  • Social distancing on and off stage
  • Masks worn at all times when indoors
  • Sanitization of all chairs, props, or shared supplies
  • Documentation of assigned seating charts or standing formations for traceability purposes

Livestream: At this point, the plan is to do multiple live-streams of the video production over the weekend of December 18-20. More details including the link and times will be distributed soon. You can share this link with your friends and family, all over the country so that they can all see this year’s production.

How parents can help: We will hold a choir parent Zoom call on Thursday, October 22 at 7pm to discuss these details in person. The link for that Zoom call will be sent out through email, powerschool, and posted on Canvas. At this meeting, we will discuss ways that parents can help including costume fittings, assembling luminaires for the finale performance on the football field, soliciting silent auction items, creating the pre-show slide-show, photography, etc.
